What is BriteSmile®?
BriteSmile®, increasingly popular among patients in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a revolutionary teeth whitening system that uses patented gas plasma light technology in conjunction with a proprietary wavelength-specific, gentle whitening gel to safely and effectively whiten teeth. Exposure of your teeth to coffee, wine, tea, soda, and a virtually anything you eat can over time darken your teeth and dull your smile. Years of intrinsic staining and discoloration can be reversed comfortably and quickly in one short visit. Peer reviewed studies on BriteSmile® teeth whitening have proven the process to be safe due to its buffered ph proprietary whitening gel that will not harm enamel or any existing dental work.
How Does the BriteSmile® Teeth Whitening System Work?
Due to its unique design, the BriteSmile® light is able to simultaneously whiten all teeth in the smile zone in about an hour. The light consists of a filtered lamp that emits a beam in the blue-gray spectrum of approximately 400-500 nanometers. The BriteSmile® teeth whitening gel consists of specially formulated hydrogen peroxide that contains a patented photo-initiator that acts as a catalyst for the whitening process. When the gel is exposed to the special wave-specific light, the catalyst begins the whitening process and begins neutralizing the pigments that have been absorbed into the enamel. The light is completely safe and, unlike sunlight, contains no harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Instead, the light operates in a narrow wavelength range of the gentle blue-green spectrum and is safe for teeth, gums, and skin. What Are the Alternatives to BriteSmile®?
Traditional at-home teeth whitening systems can be a viable alternative to the in-office teeth whitening system, BriteSmile®. The only advantage that the at-home system has over BriteSmile® is cost. The fee for the at-home whitening system is generally about one-half that of BriteSmile®. There are several disadvantages. These systems aren’t as effective in getting your teeth their whitest, they take several weeks to complete, and there is a greater chance of swallowing some of the teeth whitening gel due to the long wear times of 30-60 hours.
The at-home BriteSmile® teeth whitening system uses custom-fitted trays made from molds of your teeth. A special whitening gel containing carbamide peroxide is accurately placed in the tray then worn for a minimum of two hours during the day or while sleeping at night. The process takes at least two weeks, depending on the severity of tooth discoloration. Dark gray teeth stained by medication such as tetracycline can take up to several months of wear for satisfactory results. We do not recommend any over-the-counter products for tooth whitening. Chenal Dentistry has found these products to be minimally effective and a poor value for the results attained.
